Sausage and Cheddar Biscuits is my recipe of the day with a blogging group Bread Baker’s. Each month the group gathers to share recipes on a specific topic. Today we’re sharing recipes for our favorite biscuits. I’m glad you could join us!

These biscuits are a Savory variation on some sweet ones that I like to make, and some of those I’ve listed some links below for you to peruse. These can be used for breakfast. They make a nice biscuit sandwich if you add some cook sausage patties and cheddar cheese, and perhaps even a fried egg in there somewhere.

Sausage and Cheddar Biscuits
Sausage and Cheddar biscuits uses buttermilk with cheddar cheese and herbs to create a tender flaky bread addition for any homestyle meal.
- 8 ounces bulk pork sausage
- 2-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon rubbed sage
- 2 teaspoons dried chives
- 1/2 cup shortening cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450F.

Brown and crumble pork sausage and cool.

Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, sage and chives.

Cut in cubes of shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Toss shredded cheese with the tablespoon of flour.

Add cheese and sausage to dough and knead in until blended.

Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface about half inch thick

Place biscuits on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Bake 16-18 minutes or until golden.
