Not all viral TikTok recipes are worth the hype, but sheet pan crispy rice is every bit as delicious as it sounds! Crisp and golden, it’s tossed in a savory sesame chili sauce and baked up for the perfect addition to salads, bowls, and more.

You can’t escape crispy rice if you’re on TikTok, so I gave in and finally tried it myself. Now I totally understand the hype. Baking rice on a sheet pan is more hands-off than frying it on the stovetop, and it really does a better job at achieving the perfect texture. It’s crispy and chewy, with lots of umami flavor. We’ve been loving this for topping meal bowls, salads, or enjoying alongside Asian cucumber salad for a light summer lunch.
Why Crispy Rice Is the Best Way to Use Leftover Rice
I don’t know about you, but anytime I make curry or stir fry for dinner, I’ve always got leftover rice in the fridge afterwards. Now that I know how to make baked crispy rice, I have a new favorite way to use it up!
- Super crispy. Baking the rice on a sheet pan gives you lots of surface area for extra crispy goodness.
- Hands-off recipe. Just toss everything together, spread it on a pan, and bake. Super easy!
- The perfect addition to so many meals. Use it in bowls, add it to salads instead of croutons, serve it as a base for miso salmon. You have endless options!

What You’ll Need
You only need a handful of ingredients to make this viral crispy rice recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card for exact measurements.
- Cooked jasmine rice – Day old rice works best because it’s drier and crisps up better. I like to use this Instant Pot Jasmine Rice.
- Sesame oil – The rice needs to be coated with oil to get crispy and sesame oil also adds a layer of nutty flavor that’s so good with jasmine rice.
- Tamari – Soy sauce works too if you don’t need the recipe to be gluten-free.
- Chili garlic crisp – Adds a little heat and texture. Feel free to adjust the amount to your liking.
- Rice wine vinegar – For a little bit of tangy flavor.
How to Make Sheet Pan Crispy Rice
Here’s a visual overview of the steps involved in making this baked crispy rice.

- Make the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the sesame oil, tamari, chili garlic crisp, and rice wine vinegar.
- Coat the rice. Add the rice to a large bowl and pour the sauce over the top. Toss until every grain is coated.

- Spread onto a baking sheet. Transfer the rice to a baking sheet and spread it into an even layer.
- Bake. Cook at 400ºF for 30 to 37 minutes, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes so the rice crisps evenly.
- Cool slightly. Remove from the oven and let the rice cool for a few minutes before serving.
Tips for the Crispiest Rice
Making crispy rice is easy, but these additional tips will help you make sure it turns out perfect every time.
- Start with cold rice. Freshly cooked rice has too much moisture. Leftover rice from a day or two before yields the crispiest results.
- Don’t skip stirring. Tossing the rice every 10 to 15 minutes helps every little grain get crispy.
- Spread it into an even layer. Bigger clumps of rice won’t crisp up.
- Let it cool a bit. The rice continues to crisp as it cools on the pan.

Storage and Reheating
- Refrigerator: Store leftover crispy rice in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- To reheat: Bake at 375°F for 5 to 8 minutes or warm in an air fryer until crispy again. The microwave works, but the rice won’t be as crisp.
