A Chocolate Martini is one of the easiest cocktails you can make—and also one of the most balanced and delicious out there! You only need 3 ingredients for this creamy, chocolatey recipe.

I love the richness and creaminess of an Espresso Martini, but at the end of the day, I don’t always want that espresso jolt. And that’s when I mix up a Chocolate Martini! It has a little bit of coffee flavor thanks to the Baileys, but it replaces the espresso and coffee liqueur with chocolate liqueur, making it the perfect dessert cocktail. While a French Martini and Lemon Drop Martini are light and refreshing, this chocolate martini is a total treat!
What Makes This Chocolate Martini a Staple Cocktail
This recipe is a classic—the kind of cocktail you’ll make all the time! Here’s what makes it so good.
- Only 3 ingredients. So once you have those ingredients on hand, you can shake up a chocolate martini whenever the craving strikes!
- Easy yet impressive. Even though this martini takes just a few minutes to put together, once you pour it into a martini glass with a chocolate drizzle and add some chocolate shavings on top, it looks (and tastes!) like it came from a high-end bar.
- Customizable. Use this chocolate martini recipe as a base for all different kinds of variations. I share some ideas later in this post!

What You’ll Need
Here’s what you’ll need to make a chocolate martini at home. Scroll down to the recipe card to find the ingredient quantities and recipe instructions.
- Vodka – Don’t use the cheapest bottle on the shelf, but no need for the most expensive either.
- Chocolate liqueur – I used Borgata, but Bailey’s makes a chocolate liqueur, as does Godiva.
- Baileys – Just like when you’re baking a chocolate cake and add a little coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor, Baileys does the same thing in this chocolate martini.
- Optional garnishes – Chocolate sauce to drizzle in the martini glass and chocolate shavings to sprinkle on top.

Chocolate Martini Variations
Come up with your own spins on this martini recipe or use these ideas for inspiration!
- Peppermint. If you love a Peppermint Espresso Martini, try swapping the plain vodka for peppermint vodka. Rim the martini glass with chocolate syrup and crushed candy canes.
- Mexican chocolate. Shake your martini with a pinch of cinnamon and a tiny pinch of cayenne.
- Black Forest. Use cherry vodka and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
- Chocolate caramel. Swirl caramel sauce in the martini glass and use caramel vodka.
- S’mores. Use marshmallow vodka and rim the martini glass with chocolate sauce and graham cracker crumbs. Garnish with marshmallows on a pick. (Bonus points if you toast the marshmallows first!)
Serving Suggestions
A chocolate martini is the kind of cocktail you enjoy on its own or with dessert. (I suppose you could have it with a plate of spaghetti or salmon, but I wouldn’t recommend it!) Naturally, it pairs well with chocolate desserts—I love serving it with a dessert board or small-bite treats like Fudgy Peppermint Brownies and Chocolate Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies.
