This cinnamon-spiced Apple Pear Crisp recipe is pure comfort. While I am a chocolate lover at heart, chocolate doesn’t give you the comfort feels like a warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting over the top. It’s totally dreamy! To add more fall flavor, I added pears to this crisp recipe, which have a more tender texture and give the crisp another layer of flavor. (Pro-tip: You can also add pears to this Apple Blueberry Crumble.) You could even add cranberries for a festive pop of color!

Why This Apple Pear Crisp Belongs on Your Baking List

If you need a break from pumpkin spice everything (ahem, that’s me raising my hand) this dessert is it!

  • Easy to make. This cinnamon apple pear crisp is done in just an hour! It’s simple to make, involves less than 10 ingredients, and brings you straight to dessert bliss with only a few minutes of hands-on prep.
  • Super cozy. An apple crisp the perfect holiday dessert if you’re looking for something comforting and “home-y.” It’s rustic and delicious, with the tender baked fruit of a pie with way less fuss.
  • Pears share the spotlight. Pears have a more sophisticated flavor than apples—fragrant, with notes of florals, vanilla, and spices. This apple pear crisp is one of my favorite ways to enjoy them! (This Pear Upside Down Cake is a favorite too.)

What You’ll Need

Apple Pear Filling:

  • Pears – I like to use Bartlett pears, but Asian and Bosc pears work too.
  • Apples – Tart Granny Smith apples are the perfect balance to sweet pears.
  • All-purpose flour – This thickens the filling.
  • Spices – Ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Apple pie spice would also work as a substitute for both.
  • Raw honey – For just a touch of sweetness, without processed sugar.
  • Salt
  • Lemon juice – This brightens up the flavor of the fruit.

Crisp Topping:

  • Oats – Old-fashioned oats have the best texture for a crisp topping.
  • All-purpose flour
  • Brown sugar – You can use light or dark brown sugar.
  • Spices – Ground cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Salt
  • Butter – Chill the butter and cut it into pieces.

How to Make This Apple Pear Crisp

Here’s a step-by-step guide to making this cozy apple pear crisp recipe.

  • Make the filling. Toss all of the filling ingredients in a bowl until the fruit is evenly coated. Pour into a skillet or baking dish.
  • Make the topping. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and use your hands or a pastry blender to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly.
  • Assemble. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit filling.
  • Bake. Place the pan in a 350ºF oven and bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until the top is browned and the fruit is bubbly.
  • Serve. Scoop the apple pear crisp into bowls and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. (The ice cream is optional, but seriously: don’t skip it!)

Tips and Variations

I have a few additional pointers for this apple pear crisp recipe.

  • Use the best fruit you can find. If your apples are mealy and your pears have no flavor, they won’t magically transform into a delicious crisp in the oven! Start with high-quality fruit and you’ll be rewarded with the tastiest crisp.
  • Make it gluten-free. Use a gluten-free flour formulated for baking and make sure your oats are certified gluten-free.
  • Add more crunch. Work some chopped pecans or walnuts into the topping.

Serving Suggestions

Vanilla ice cream is my favorite, but you can also serve this apple pear crisp with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. I like to have leftovers with Greek yogurt for breakfast too!

How to Store and Reheat Leftovers

  • Refrigerator: Transfer leftovers to an airtight container or wrap them in the baking dish. They’ll keep for up to 4 days in the fridge.
  • Freezer: You can freeze leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.
  • To reheat: Warm the crisp in a 350ºF oven or heat smaller portions in the microwave.
