At D Maris Bay, the water alone is enough to stop you mid-sentence, shifting from bright turquoise to deep sapphire as the sun moves across the cove. There are beach resorts, and then there are places that make you forget the rest of the world exists, and you never regret not leaving the hotel for a whole day. D Maris Bay is one of those.
Part sanctuary, part summer playground, D Maris Bay has mastered the art of the beachside hideout. With six private natural beaches scattered around the peninsula, it offers something difficult to find in the Mediterranean: the feeling that you’ve stumbled upon a place not everyone knows about, at least not yet. The season on the Turkish coast kicks off in late-April and runs through mid-October, but our favorite time to visit is September. The waters are warm, the evenings run a tad cooler, and the crowds have slowed down.
The Arrival
Located where the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas meet, D Maris Bay sits in a quiet cove in Turkey’s Datça Peninsula. Far enough away from the popular vacation town Marmaris, D Maris Bay is surrounded by volcanic mountains and turquoise waters everywhere you look, in a sight that makes you take an instant sigh of relief.

Step through the doors, and you’re met with something between Dubai’s polish and Turkish warmth. Oversized Rolex clocks track time zones from Tokyo to Paris, while a Dior storefront anchors the ground floor. There’s boutique stores scattered throughout that house everything from Bulgari to Hublot. Parked outside are two gleaming luxury cars, they’re available for test drives along the coastal road, though most guests never make it that far from the beach.

Check-in happens on a terrace overlooking the bay, where a bubbly welcome drink appears in your hands immediately, and you’re given a few minutes to absorb the view before your stay actually begins. The lobby is lined with fresh roses, not just a handful, but dozens at a time.

The Rooms
With around 170 rooms, D Maris Bay feels both cozy and big enough, a balance few resorts of this calibre achieve. Rooms are designed to make your life as smooth as possible: iPad controls at your nightstand allow you to adjust the temperature and lighting, and ample closet space means you can really unpack to settle in.
Bathrooms are compartmentalized with dual sinks, a separate room for the toilet, shower, and bathtub, respectively, and my favorite part, an illuminated vanity with space for your make up. Plush bathmats are already laid out each morning, and there’s a Dyson hair dryer in each room (extra points for that!). Glass water bottles replace plastic throughout the room, and the balcony has a set of matches tucked beside the ashtray. Every detail feels intentional, from the layout to the linen scents sprayed on your pillow.

The beds are some of the coziest I’ve slept in, and yes, that did mean I had the daily guilt of, should I stay in bed a little longer, or will I regret not heading to that beautiful beach? The twice-daily housekeeping service means everything stays neat, not a thing misplaced. Come evening, slippers and little chocolates appear at your bedside. One night, when the temperatures unexpectedly dipped, we returned to find complimentary sweaters folded at the foot of our bed.

The Beaches
Each of the six (!) private beaches have a personality of its own, catering to every mood. And after trying our best to hit them all, our favorite by far was Silence Beach. For one, it’s an adults only beach, with a perfect cove shaped around you. The waters in September were at ideal temperatures, and the soft sand is raked daily. The cherry on the cake? They even offer a small sliver of Zuma’s sushi menu, ideal for nibbling on the sun chairs post-dip. We’d recommend a selection of all their nigiris, with the perfect fish to rice ratio, as well as their fresh Green Salad, tossed with chunks of crab, avocado and sesame dressing.

On the other end of the spectrum, La Guérite Beach is pulsating at all hours with a lively beach club and DJ booth. Think Cannes and St. Barts, its sister locations, with the same energy. And we’d give a special shout out to Maris Beach, which offers the most private cabanas on the property, ideal for lazy afternoons away from the bustle. Just about anywhere you go on D Maris Bay, you’ll receive the same calibre of cocktails, so snag their Chili Passionfruit Margarita, and no, 11am is not too early.

The Amenities
Getting around the property is equally part of the experience. A funicular drops you to the main beach, wooden walkways connect the bays, and boats shuttle you between the beaches and restaurants pretty much at all hours. There are boutiques if you’re feeling indulgent, and when you collect your car at checkout, you’ll find the cup holders stocked with glass-bottled water and scented wipes. Families will love the kids’ club, which is serious enough in its programming that parents actually feel comfortable disappearing for a few hours.

Elsewhere, there are tennis classes, padel courts, and a gym that’s better equipped than most city clubs. Of course, Mytha Spa anchors the experience here, with hammam rituals that overlook the water and signature massages that use olive oil and sea salt.
The Pre-Dinner Drinks
Often overlooked, but arguably a vital part of any vacation, is that transition between being at the beach and getting all dolled up for dinner. After rinsing off the salt and slipping into something fresh, there’s just something deeply satisfying about lingering over a sunset cocktail before dinner – not quite the beach, and not yet the night. Luckily, you’ve got options at D Maris Bay, and that means a variety of photo ops too.

The Terrace is the first choice with panoramic views of the bay and an open-air lounge you’ll keep returning back to, especially as the sky turns to indigo. Green Hill is a golf-cart ride away and houses the best sunset on the property. Here, only wine is served, so snag a chilled glass of Champagne and sink into the iconic striped chairs overlooking the vista. As dusk sets in, you’ll likely be visited by the resort’s resident guinea fowls, who wander the lawns in small, chattering packs in search of dropped nuts. A guaranteed very entertaining start to your evening.
The Dining
Six restaurants fan across the peninsula, each identity distinct enough to feel like you are moving between destinations. Zuma, La Guérite, Aurora Capri will be familiar if you’ve spent time in Capri or St. Barts, but here they’re refracted through the light of the Turkish Aegean.
Zuma brings the famous Japanese izakaya-style dining to the Aegean, pairing sushi and high-end sashimi with signature Turkish dishes. The outdoor restaurant overlooks panoramic sea views. Between the flames from the open-air kitchen to the tables ordering one bottle of wine after another, the vibe is magnetic. Boats pull into the bay as dinner begins, and it isn’t unusual to see guests arriving straight from the water.

Manos on the other hand channels the classic Greek taverna. Opt for one of the fixed menus, you’ll be served a promising series of seafood plates and mezzes. Live music is the norm here. And if the energy is right, you’ll be waving handkerchiefs and breaking plates with your wishes written on them. Elsewhere, Aurora Capri sports handmade pastas and their famous pizzas on a calm beachfront setting.

La Guerite is ideal for lunch. Take a quick boat ride over, you’ll be serenaded with daily live music. It has Italian coastal vibes, lobster and all the seabass ceviche you could want. And the highlight of our afternoons, DD Scoop and Pastry offers an all-day coffee or ice cream reprieve, where the baklava ice cream is more than worth your extra allotment of mid-day calories.

On the other end, we found that breakfast set the standard for the high service we received all weekend long. For one, no menu appears at your table. Instead, our waiter opened with the question“So how would you like to start your morning?” implying that they are ready to make just about anything come true. The buffet sprawls with fig clusters, cheese wheels, preserves, and bottles of cold-pressed juice, but the made-to-order menu is where you should take your time. We ordered room service once, mostly out of curiosity, and found it unhurried and deeply attentive, down to the way they fold the napkins and time the coffee’s arrival. Everywhere you go, service is swift, and they think of every little thing to make dining in your pajamas just as high quality as downstairs. Your time is precious, and here, you’ll never have to wait for a thing.

The Verdict
In a region known for spectacle, D Maris Bay manages something far more difficult: consistency. The beaches are immaculate, the dining is destination-worthy, and the service operates with a warmth that never feels forced. You could fill your days moving between coves and restaurants, or you could do very little at all, both feel equally justified here. And yes, there’s Dior stores, Rolex clocks and many arriving yachts, but despite it, not a single moment feels chaotic or extravagant. It simply works, seamlessly, and without trying too hard.
